Vday Tings
Valentine's Day is around the corner, so I put together a quick little list of fun foods, crafts, and gifts for you and your little ones to enjoy. I don't believe that you have to spend a ton of money or have all the things to make something special -- just a plan, a little creativity, and a heart to make something special for your kids.
MORNING SURPRISES
My girls enjoy waking up to surprises -- I'm a night owl, so I usually set everything up after everyone is in bed. Here are a few fun options for surprises you can set up the night before:
Balloon Display - You can grab a few heart-shaped balloons from your local dollar tree or do a DIY balloon garland—the Dollar Tree carries the balloon garland tape now and a good assortment of balloons. I used the garland tape and balloons for Kennedy’s birthday last week (see photo below) Here's another method from one of my fav crafty Mom's Alana Dawn, if you don't like the balloon tape.
PRESENTS
There are so many thoughtful and inexpensive ideas for Valentine’s gifts! Don’t feel the need to break the bank! This year I picked up arts and craft supplies and books for the girls. I created an Amazon List of some fun love-themed books that I’ve found online on Amazon - I recently purchased Love Gave, a faith-based book, that I’m excited to gift to the girls this Valentine’s. Here’s some fun photo inspiration for arranging your gifts and gift baskets. One tip, search your house, you may have a basket laying around that can work perfectly. Just throw some ribbons on it and make it festive!
VALENTINE’S FOOD
I like to do Valentine’s breakfast or brunch as a family, that way it leaves the evening open if Keenan and I decide to do something as a couple. Our wedding Anniversary is the following week, so we both enjoy letting Valentine’s Day be more about the girls. Here are some easy brunch ideas:
If you’ve been following me for a while you know I’m a fan of colorful pancakes and waffles. I grabbed this heart-shaped waffle maker at Target for $10! I plan to make pink and red waffles for brunch. Just add some food coloring to your favorite batter, whip cream, sprinkles and it’s a party!

SPREADING LOVE
One thing I love about holidays like Valentine’s Day is the opportunity to model friendship to my girls. Sitting down with Kennedy and writing cards to her friends and family is important to me. I drive her crazy but we talk about what we want to say to each person and how we feel about sending the card. I believe that these are the moments that will allow her to be an amazing friend in the future. Love on your people, tell them how they make you feel.
